A California high school senior has been named one of the nation's top students for the second year in a row, the San Jose Mercury News reports.Zz Asai of Redwood City was named second place in the 2024 Songs for Social Change contest at Berklee College of Music for his song "For Better for Worse," which addresses the morality of the development of artificial intelligence.
Asai is a songwriting major at Berklee and co-wrote the piece with partner Deven Kamra Lyons.
Asai's mother says her son is "thrilled" and "honored" to be named one of the top students.
"It's a great honor, and I'm just so grateful for it," Asai says.
"It's something I've always wanted to do.
I've always wanted to be in the music industry, and I've always wanted to write songs that address social change."
Asai's song won second place in last year's contest.
