Sustainable Brands 2024: Innovation Through Collaboration

If you're still not convinced that what you throw in the recycling bin actually gets recycled, you're not alone.

A new survey finds that 32% of Americans aren't sure what they're throwing in the recycling bin actually gets recycled, Quartz reports.

The survey was conducted by the nonprofit Sustainable Brands, which aims to create a circular economy.

According to a press release, the survey also found that only 30% of Americans understand the term "circular economy," which means eliminating waste and pollution, circulating products at their highest value for as long as possible and nature.

"Breakthrough innovation paired with cross-industry collaboration is key to creating a circular economy, tackling the climate crisis, eliminating single-use plastic waste, and addressing other pressing sustainability issues," says Sustainable Brands' executive director.

The survey also found that single-use plastic waste is the leading source of waste in the US, with 42% of Americans saying they throw it in the recycling bin because it's convenient, compared to just 14% who say they throw it in the recycling bin because it's convenient.

And the majority of Americans aren't sure what the term "circular economy" actually means, with only 30% of people knowing what it means.
