India's Ministry of Ayush has declared Oct.
29 of each year as "Ayurveda Innovations for Global Health" in an effort "to showcase Ayurveda's potential to improve global health through innovative practices and natural treatment methods," per a press release.
That means it's time for Americans to start brushing up on their knowledge of the ancient Indian system of medicine, which has been heralded for its ability to treat everything from colds and sore throats to insomnia and, in one case, breast cancer, per the Washington Post.
"Ayurveda's emphasis on lifestyle management, mental health, and care for the elderly provides resilient solutions for vulnerable populations," says the press release, which notes that the day is being celebrated in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
(Ayurveda's claim to fame is that it can cure cancer.)
